I do not consistently read the Word of God, nor can I always remember where certain scriptures are located. But very recently I have been praying and asking for Him to plant a deep thirst and hunger within me to mediate on His word, daily. And to memorise His Word like never before. I am trusting in Him to help me with this, for His word is ‘the sword of the Spirit’ [Ephesians 6:17], ‘a lamp to my feet and a light for my path’ [Psalm 119:105].

The child of God who meditates on His word day and night ‘is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither’ [Psalm1:3]. This scripture paints a perfect picture: there is life in His Word; food for our spirit, our heart, our mind and we are nourished every time we read and meditate on His word. His Word pours into us and enables us to pour into others; without it we become weak and undernourished, unable to bear fruit.

Not only are we weakened in our service for the Lord, but also in our faith because ‘faith comes from hearing the message and the message is heard through the word of Christ’ [Romans 10:17].

So I am trusting in Him to honour my prayers and my desire to thirst and hunger for and read and meditate on His word and be nourished and bear fruit and be poured into and pour into, all for His Glory and His Kingdom.
